LIGHTING DESIGNER

We are seeking a creative and technically skilled Lighting Designer to join our team in our Ashford, Kent office. The Lighting Designer will be responsible for designing, specifying, and implementing cutting-edge audio-visual systems for various types of projects, including corporate offices, educational institutions, entertainment venues, and more. The role involves working closely with clients, project managers, and installation teams to ensure the successful execution of Lighting solutions.

    • Lighting Design: Create bespoke lighting solutions tailored to client needs across residential and commercial environments.

    • System Specification: Select equipment based on performance, compatibility, and budget.

    • Technical Drawings: Produce layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams using CAD software.

    • Project Coordination: Liaise with project managers, engineers, and installers to ensure designs are delivered on time and to spec.

    • Client Collaboration: Understand client requirements and present clear, innovative lighting solutions.

    • Budget Awareness: Deliver cost-effective designs without compromising on quality.

    • Technology Awareness: Keep current with lighting trends and innovations.

    • Support & Troubleshooting: Assist during installation and post-installation phases.

    • Documentation: Prepare detailed technical documentation including manuals and system guides.

  • To be eligible for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

    Essential:

    • 3–5 years of experience in lighting design

    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Visio, and/or Photoshop

    • Strong knowledge of lighting systems and technologies

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills

    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

    • Problem-solving mindset with critical thinking skills

    • Full UK driving licence (preferred)

    Desirable:

    • Industry certifications (e.g. CTS)

    • Experience in corporate, education, or live event lighting

    • Familiarity with room acoustics and design principles

  • This is a full-time, junior to mid-level office role based in our Ashford, Kent office with occasional travel to project sites as determined.

    We will include training towards BM<X and Dialux and anticipate the role to grow as you do.

    Base salary from £30,000 DOE, where a discretionary 5% annual bonus (paid quarterly), based on meeting agreed targets / KPIs.

    The role includes 20 days paid holiday plus eight days bank holidays per year. Additionally, any working days between Christmas and New Year will be paid, despite our office being closed during this time.

    A laptop and all applicable software will be provided with an expenses card for general day-to-day company use. It is preferable that candidates have a full UK driving licence.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

We are seeking a full-time, skilled Electrical Engineer to join our established, growing team, ideally based in Kent, Surrey, West Sussex or Greater London. The candidate will have a minimum of five years experience, electrical qualifications, as well as good communication and time management skills.

  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

    • Designing and implementing electrical systems for both residential and commercial installations.

    • Carrying out installations, inspections, fault diagnosis, testing, repair, and maintenance of electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures.

    • Maintaining accurate worksheets and records/documentation associated with your work.

    • Ensuring compliance with agreed codes, legislation, and procedures, including health and safety regulations.

    • Meeting personal targets and contributing to team goals.

    • Adhering to all organisational policies and procedures, including those relating to hygiene, respect for colleagues, timekeeping, and flexibility.

    To be eligible for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

    • Minimum of 5 years of practical electrical experience

    • City & Guilds electrical qualifications and 18th Edition certification (required)

    • ECS Gold Card holder (desirable)

    • Qualifications such as BTEC, NVQ Level 3, ONC, or HNC/HND (desirable)

    • Experience with electrical design, including AutoCAD (advantageous)

    • Skills in control panel design, manufacture, or installation

  • This is a full-time, field-based role with regular travel to our office in Ashford, Kent to co-ordinate projects with fellow team members.

     

    The salary bracket for this position is £45,000-£49,000 per annum d.o.e., where a discretionary 5% annual bonus (paid quarterly), based on meeting agreed targets / KPIs, equating to a potential earning of £47,250 - £51,450 per annum.

SUPPORT ENGINEER MANAGER

Butler Harwell is seeking an experienced Support Engineering Manager to create and manage our customer support operations. As Support Engineering Manager, you'll establish and lead our dedicated support department, serving both our customers and our engineering/commissioning teams. This is a key leadership position with full P&L responsibility and autonomy in department development.

    • Create and implement support strategies and processes from the ground up

    • Manage departmental calendar and cost centre

    • Drive profitability while maintaining exceptional service levels

    • Oversee technical support delivery across multiple systems and platforms

    • Lead and develop the support team

    • Handle antisocial hours as required

    • Identify and pursue upgrade and new equipment sales opportunities

    WORKING HOURS

    Typical working hours are 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday with 1 hour of statutory breaks. You would also be available to receive emergency client calls during your rest period. Any time from your statutory break period, from cessation of the emergency call to the start of your next shift, shall be returned to you typically in the same working week. We aim to work with you to remain respectful of on-call and rest periods. Due to the nature of works, it is expected you to opt-out of the Working Time directive.

SENIOR ENGINEER

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Smart Homes Senior Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise and experience with strong leadership to roll-out integrated, user-friendly smart home solutions that transform how people interact with their living spaces.

    • Work closely with Projects Manager to be the site-lead to manage project installation life cycle.

SYSTEMS DESIGNER

We are seeking a talented and innovative Smart Homes System Designer to join our team in our Ashford, Kent office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, integrating, and optimising comprehensive smart home solutions that enhance comfort, efficiency, and security for commercial and residential projects. The role involves working closely with clients and project managers to ensure the successful execution of smart home solutions.

    • You will be responsible for the initial creation, and subsequent revisions of various design deliverables including structured cable diagrams, set outs, schedules, rack schematics, and others.

    • Create custom smart home ecosystem designs that integrate multiple technologies and platforms

    • You will be responsible for document control, version release and keeping the document register up to date on projects you are leading on.

    • You will be communicating directly with our Projects team ensuring they have all the right information in order to deliver our projects.

    • You will be attending site visits in order to gather information and meet with project stakeholders.

    • Taking the role of Design Lead on projects, ensuring that key deliverables are produced on time and within the

    • budgeted hours, so that we can meet project milestones. In addition to communicating directly with other project stakeholders such as Architects or Building Contractors in order to collaborate as required.

    • You will be assisting in the creation of new, and modification of existing deliverable templates

    • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing deadlines and requirements.

    • Experience: minimum 5 years of experience in smart home systems design.

    • Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD and Visio is essential

    • Strong technical knowledge of:
